Michigan Science Center

The Michigan Science Center is one of the crown jewels of Detroit’s Cultural Center Historic District. It has its roots in the Detroit Science Center, which was founded by Dexter Ferry in 1970. The organization grew from a single storefront to a major cultural institution affiliated with the Smithsonian in only a few decades. Following a reorganization in 2012, the museum has been known as the Michigan Science Center. The facility offers visitors a wide variety of exhibits, including the DTE Energy Sparks Theater, the Chrysler Science Stage, the Toyota Engineering 4D Theater, an IMAX Dome Theatre, and the Dassault Systemes Planetarium in addition to many visiting exhibitions.
